Why Launch From the Sea

Rockets are loudest, most dangerous, and most constrained where people live. An offshore island solves all three at once: launch and re-entry corridors run over empty water, noise and exclusion zones fall on open sea, and downrange recovery (landing boosters back near the pad) happens without overflying a single town.

Sited on the outermost island of the archipelago, the spaceport keeps its hazard footprint over the North Sea while sitting just a causeway and rail link from the European mainland. It is the rare combination of remote and connected.

The launch complex is planned to host Starship-class vehicles, with SpaceX engaged as a prospective anchor tenant and a source of global prestige for the project.

From Pad to Spaceport

The launch pad becomes operational in Phase 3 (2034–2040), once the archipelago and its connectivity reach the outer islands. Securing a letter of interest from SpaceX is one of the project's named Phase 1 partnership goals, alongside the ports, TenneT, and the dredging firms that will build the ground beneath it.

A spaceport is the clearest possible statement of what Nieuw Doggerland is: not a defensive sea wall, but a launch point: for energy, for ecology, and quite literally for orbit.
