Nieuw Doggerland is not only infrastructure; it is a place people will call home. Eco-wetland districts, a working harbour town, and a community built from scratch for the century ahead.
Life on the Islands
Residential districts sit low among restored wetlands, sheltered by the archipelago and powered by the wind that surrounds them. The polder tradition that shaped the Netherlands becomes a way of living with water rather than against it: homes amid reedbeds, tidal channels, and protected lagoons alive with birds.
Nature is not a distant amenity here; it is the doorstep. A marine sanctuary, a dive programme, a public aquarium, and kilometres of new coastline make it a place where the wild sea sits closer to the front door than anywhere else in Europe.
A Community Taking Shape
Permanent habitation begins with crew housing and utilities in Phase 2, growing into civilian districts, governance institutions, and services as the province takes form.
A full civilian community (schools, healthcare, and public services) is part of the Phase 4 plan to declare Nieuw Doggerland an autonomous binational province.
A memorial promenade honours the engineers and the ancient people of Doggerland, while a world archaeological congress and research life give the islands a civic identity from day one.
Careers a Province Creates
A project on this scale is a generation of work. These are the disciplines Nieuw Doggerland needs, now in the founding phase and for decades to come.
Dredging, coastal and geotechnical engineering, bridges, rail, ports: the disciplines that physically raise the islands and connect them.
Biologists, fisheries scientists, oyster and kelp specialists, and hatchery operators running the world’s most studied marine recovery zone.
Renewable-energy developers, grid and HVDC engineers, and hydrogen specialists building the power hub of the North Sea.
Marine archaeologists and conservators excavating and interpreting one of Earth’s great submerged landscapes.
Treaty lawyers, planners, and administrators designing a binational jurisdiction from first principles.
Educators, clinicians, hospitality, and the civic professions that turn a worksite into a place to live.
